Faculty and Students! We want to hear from you! If you have any pictures, reflections, articles, etc. of you doing One Health research or studying One Health, we would love to feature it on our various communications platform.

Call for Proposals Deadline EXTENDED
The One Health Institute is pleased to announce a call for proposals for the 2021 Dr. Robert W. Woolner One Health Summer Research Studentship, which will fund an undergraduate student's summer research on a One Health-related project.
Faculty members currently pursuing a One Health-related research project are encouraged to submit a short project proposal by January 15, 2021.

The One Health Institute Director along with members of the Advisory Board will select two projects by the end of January. The two faculty members with the chosen projects will each be awarded with a summer studentship. Students will apply directly to the faculty members.

Losing weight may be a top New Year's resolution, but as University of Guelph Philosophy Prof. Joshua August (Gus) Skorburg points out, lasting solutions must consider more than just the individual and their habits.

SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance in Pets Study
Drs. Scott Weese and Dorothee Bienzle from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph are recruiting Canadian veterinary clinic staff who have had COVID-19 themselves for a study to learn more about the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from people to their own pets (dogs, cats, ferrets).

ISOHA Journal Call for Submissions
The International Student One Health Alliance invites submissions for their journal. Submissions can be research articles, commentaries, review pieces, and creative works (e.g. poetry, graphics and art, etc.). All submissions must reflect or involve the One Health Approach.
Current students worldwide are welcome to submit!

CPHAZ Student Mentorship Event
The Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses (CPHAZ) is hosting a Student Mentorship event throughout the winter semester months from January to April 2021. This is an opportunity for University of Guelph students to interact with different One Health professionals in academia, public health, and research sectors. The event will be virtual using Microsoft Teams and there is limited enrollment, so don't wait too long to register! COVID-19 Panel Discussion: A Vaccine Recovery

The Infectious Disease Working Group is proud to present "A Vaccine Recovery". This panel discussion will look to focus on COVID-19 vaccination including vaccine contenders, distribution and the immunization process.
There are several misconceptions surrounding the efficacy and safety of the COVID-19 vaccine that many physicians, scientists, activists, and others are worried are not being addressed. The discussion will also focus on vaccination from a pharmaceutical, immunology and health equity perspective. The discussion will include explanation on vaccine development for COVID-19 and we wish to address the shorter time span required for COVID-19 vaccine development. Vaccination priority within the Canadian community is going to be touched on as well.
With our diverse panel perspectives, we want to dispel myths surrounding the vaccination process and provide the public with accurate and useful information that will help inform them on Canada’s COVID-19 vaccination process.

2021 Cornell One Health Symposium
Saturday, January 30th, 2021 | Zoom
The annual One Health Symposium provides a unique opportunity for professionals, veterinary students, medical students, public health students, and graduate students from a variety of disciplines to come together for a day of talks and workshops related to the One Health philosophy.
Registration will be $5 for students and professionals, and free for VOHA members who have paid 2020 or 2021 dues.
The registration deadline is January 23rd at 11:59 PM EST. Zoom links will be e-mailed to registered participants after the deadline.

Winter 2021 Seminar Series - Pigs, Poverty, and Epilepsy

The One Health Institute is excited to present our first seminar series of the Winter 2021 semester. Kicking it off with the Director of the Institute, Dr. Cate Dewey!
Dewey will talk about her decade-long research project in rural Kenya where she worked with smallholder pig farmers to improve pig and community health by educating farmers on the epilepsy-causing parasite transmitted from pigs to humans.

OHSC Bottle Drive
A huge 'thank you' to everyone that donated and helped with the first OHSC Bottle Drive! Together, we raised a total of $200 - $100 for the rebuilding of the Iqaluit Human Society and $100 for future OHSC events.

2020 Hammond Lecture - Wastes, Water, and Food: The One Health Links to Human and Wildlife Health

The One Health Institute was thrilled to collaborate with the University of Guelph’s School of Environmental Sciences to put on the 2020 Hammond Lecture.
The event featured keynote speaker Dr. Karen Kidd who holds the Stephen A. Jarislowsky Chair in Environmental Health and is a Professor jointly in the Department of Biology and the School of Earth, Environment and Society at McMaster University. She was joined by University of Guelph panelists Dr. Paul Sibley (School of Environmental Sciences), Dr. Heather Murphy (Department of Pathobiology), and Dr. Claire Jardine (Department of Pathobiology).
