COVID-19 Update: Dec. 31, 2020

The following updates are provided by the Return-to-Campuses steering committee.

U of G operations resume Jan. 4, 2021, but services and activities will continue to be affected by the provincewide shutdown that began Dec. 26, 2020 and will last at least 28 days.

To keep the U of G community informed, we are posting updates to the University of Guelph Measures During COVID-19 Provincewide Shutdown section on the University's COVID-19 website. Please continue to monitor this webpage regularly for updates and new information.

During the provincewide shutdown:

  • Remote learning will continue as planned. Students enrolled in face-to-face courses and learning activities will receive information from their instructors. Students should check Course Link for start dates.

  • Employees who can work remotely should continue to do so. If your job duties require you to be on campus or at a U of G facility, speak with your manager directly. Custodial and maintenance staff will report to work as usual.

  • Access to University buildings is restricted to:
    • People who cannot perform their work duties remotely
    • Faculty and students involved in face-to-face teaching and learning
    • Faculty and researchers with an approved research management plan, and
    • Students living in campus residences.

  • All staff and faculty must obtain approval from their supervisor or chair before coming to campus to work or to conduct research. If you have an approved research management plan, you must still obtain permission from your supervisor or chair to access buildings. You must complete the U of G COVID-19 Daily Screening Form prior to every visit to campus and follow all Public Heath guidelines and safety protocols.

  • Access to U of G-operated facilities to conduct research is restricted, details are available on the Office of Research website.

  • University buildings are closed to the public, including Athletics, the McLaughlin Library and all academic buildings. Some remote services will be available; check websites for more information and availability.

  • Public access to the University Centre will be restricted to those with appointments to visit commercial businesses such as UC Pharmacy and UC Chiropractic Care. Limited services are available for staff who have to be on campus. Visit the University Centre's website for more information and a listing of available services.

  • Residences remain open to students who have accepted housing for the winter 2021 semester. Winter 2021 move-in appointments are currently expected to proceed as planned. No visitors are permitted.

  • Student Health Services and the Health and Performance Centre reopen Jan. 4 with enhanced safety measures and restrictions in place; check websites for information.

  • Ontario Veterinary Health Sciences Centre Animal Hospitals, Animal Health Lab and Agriculture and Food Lab are open during the provincewide shutdown.

New information will be posted as it becomes available. Please monitor the University's COVID-19 webpage for updates.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this complex, ever-changing situation.
