Thank you to the University of Guelph - Office of Teaching and Learning for organizing yet another incredible Teaching and Learning Innovations Conference (TLI)! Lovely to be surrounded by people who care so sincerely about improving teaching and learning for students here at UofG and beyond. It was awesome to have the opportunity to present a talk and poster on some preliminary results from my MSc thesis relating to how students' achievement goal orientations relate to their use of generative-AI! Super proud of my collaborators Nathan Cozzi & Rayan K. for your work on this project and all you did to help this poster presentation be successful! And of course - a huge thank you to Dr. Dan Grunspan, my advisor/mentor - for the guidance and unwavering support!

At the University of Guelph’s 35th annual Teaching and Learning Innovations Conference, we heard about pedagogical partnerships taking place across the UoG campus (shout out to presenters Brandon Sabourin, Julia Close and Dr. Kerry Ritchie!). We were inspired to hear how these students have been involved in curriculum design, and particularly that they have been paid via teaching and learning grants and Undergraduate Research Assistantships. We need more flexible pathways to allow entrance to paid student-faculty partnerships, especially related to teaching and learning work (if we wish to overcome barriers to pedagogical change!) as Dr. Ritchie noted. At WxL, we have recently done some work to document the impact of pedagogical partnerships (read more via the link below). We ultimately propose co-operative education as a great avenue for student-faculty partnerships in pedagogical work. An enormous shout-out to Elysse Howard, Sky Tremaine, Reid Laporte, and Rasica Kalia who joined me this past week at the 2024 Teaching, Learning and Innovation Conference hosted by the University of Guelph - Office of Teaching and Learning. Your experiences with GenAI in and outside of my Fall 2023 Indigenous Peoples and Public Policy classroom (PO/NO330 - Wilfrid Laurier University) are important, valuable, and were very enthusiastically received. Thank you University of Guelph - Office of Teaching and Learning for hosting such a well organized conference. And thank you to all of the keynote, session, workshop, panel, and poster presenters whose research, experiences, reflections, and teaching practices have inspired, challenged, and helped me grow both my teaching practice and my faculty support activities. 🙏

This week, I had the opportunity to present at the University of Guelph’s 35th annual Teaching and Learning Innovations conference. Brandon Sabourin and I presented a critical reflection on student-staff partnerships in curriculum development, advocating for their integration within curricular activities at the University of Guelph. As my time in the Office of Teaching and Learning at the University of Guelph comes to an end, I reflect on the enriching journey I’ve had in curriculum development. It’s been a privilege to work alongside such dedicated and talented individuals. I look forward to leveraging knowledge and skills gained as I embark on new journeys!

I spent the past 2 days connecting with such wonderful folks across the University of Guelph campus (and beyond!), who are just as excited and invested in teaching and learning as I am. It was my pleasure to represent the Work-Learn Institute in so many fruitful conversations on topics like #WIL, #EL, #CriticalReflection, #StudentsAsPartners, and more! Of course, my favourite part was seeing everyone and being so warmly welcomed in the UoG community.. My heart and brain are full! 💛🖤❤️ Thank you to the conference organizers and the wonderful folks at the University of Guelph - Office of Teaching and Learning ++ who made it all happen. I even won a prize, already being put to use! Lastly, shout out to hospitality for killing it with the banana bread as always - my request to organizers for next year is to also bring back the buttertart bars.. #IYKYK

We are so grateful that you shared your time, stories, and reflections with each other. Our community is what makes transformative teaching and learning possible. We hope to see you at TLI 2025!

So excited to be co-presenting with Christopher Laursen, Aron Fazekas and Melissa Beacom at the Guelph TLI conference tomorrow. We’ll be exploring the synergies between programming that supports student wellbeing and faculty wellbeing and how to harness the success of Learning to Bounce to facilitate a culture of wellbeing and belonging in academia. You might also leave thinking about your own perfectionism and procrastination in a new way. We hope to see you there!
