The Mink Link: How COVID-19 Mutations in Animals Affect Human Health
In this article University of Guelph's Drs. Byram W. Bridle, Leonardo Susta, Sarah Wooton (Department of Pathobiology) and Dr. Shayan Sharif (Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies, OVC) as well as clinician-scientist Dr. Samira Mubareka (Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology, University of Toronto) discuss mink becoming infected with SARS-CoV-2 and what this means for vaccines and immunity. They highlight the importance of One Health in thinking not only about human health but also about animal and environmental health in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Health Inequity & Racial Justice
The Department of Sociology at Mount Allison University is inviting applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Health Inequity and Racial Justice. The Chair will be a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and, as provided by the Canada Research Chairs Program, will be supported in their research through protected research time with a reduced teaching load.

SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance in Pets Study
Drs. Scott Weese and Dorothee Bienzle from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph are recruiting Canadian veterinary clinic staff who have had COVID-19 themselves for a study to learn more about the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from people to their own pets (dogs, cats, ferrets).

ISOHA Journal Call for Submissions
The International Student One Health Alliance invites submissions for their journal. Submissions can be research articles, commentaries, review pieces, and creative works (e.g. poetry, graphics and art, etc.). All submissions must reflect or involve the One Health Approach.
Current students worldwide are welcome to submit!

Antimicrobial Resistance/Antimicrobial Use Journal Club
Join the AMR/AMU and One Health Discussion!

The Antimicrobial Resistance/Antimicrobial Use (AMR/AMU) Journal Club will be hosting their monthly journal club TOMORROW. They will be discussing McEwen & Collignon (2012), with their guest speaker Dr. Jane Parmley to examine AMR and One Health.
All University of Guelph students are welcome to join this club. No previous knowledge of AMR/AMU is required!

Planet Madagascar Internship Opportunities
The OHSC is excited to announce two new internship opportunities! Planet Madagascar is looking for two motivated individuals to join their team - one as a Communications intern and one as a Project Development intern. These positions start in January 2021 and will be four months long.

The OHSC is having a bottle drive fundraiser in support of OHSC events and the rebuilding of the Iqaluit Humane Society!
There are two ways to participate:
- Arrange for contactless pick up from now until December 11th (please contact erobin07@uoguelph.ca to set up a time) OR
- In-person drop off at the Beer Store (15 Municipal Street, Guelph – bring your masks!) on December 5th from 12-1PM.

Seminar 4- Plastic Pollution and Wildlife Health
Dr. Jennifer Provencher (Research Scientist in the Ecotoxicology and Wildlife Health Division of the Science and Technology Branch at Environment and Climate Change Canada) discussed her work focusing on plastic pollution and wildlife health. In particular, Dr. Provencher touched on three main themes in this seminar: ingestion and accumulation of plastics, wildlife as vectors of plastics, and plastics as a vector for contaminants.

Dr. Graham Taylor (Associate Professor in the School of Engineering) led an insightful seminar covering explainable artificial intelligence and also artificial cognition – an emerging area in which they think machine learning scientists and psychologists can work together.

Panel Talk: Biology and Control of SARS-CoV-2

This was a moderated and interactive webinar put on in partnership with the Ontario Veterinary College. It aimed to provide up-to-date scientific information on biology of SARS-CoV-2 and prophylactic strategies (such as vaccines) that are under development for control of this virus.
This session featured SARS-CoV-2 researchers from the University of Guelph, University of Toronto, and McMaster University, and was moderated by Dr. Shayan Sharif (Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies, OVC). Read more about the panelists here.
