COVID-19 Update: Nov. 5, 2020

U of G's COVID-19 Updates help keep you informed of the University's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. They provide useful information to help you navigate life at U of G throughout the academic year.

We appreciate that, during COVID-19, you may feel anxious if one of your on-campus classes or labs are cancelled. You may have questions about why it was cancelled and maybe even concerns about whether you're at risk.

Throughout the pandemic, U of G has worked closely with Public Health to help keep our campus safe. If there were a risk of COVID-19 transmission on campus, U of G will work with local Public Health to support contact tracing. Public Health directly contacts those identified as being at risk usually within 24 to 48 hours of a positive COVID-19 test.

As in any academic year, instructors have discretion to cancel classes or labs. They may do so for a variety of reasons, including personal matters or taking a sick day. If your class or lab is cancelled, your instructor will let you know via email and tell you how the missed material will be made up.

Keeping each other safe on campus

Together, we significantly reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission by following these standard safety protocols:

  • Completing the U of G COVID-19 Screening Form daily before coming to campus and staying home if so directed

  • Wearing a face covering when on campus, including in classes and labs - in some teaching spaces, additional personal protective equipment (PPE) is required

  • Maintaining 2 metres of physical distance from others and obeying related signs

  • Following general hygiene protocols (cover coughs and sneezes, wash hands frequently or use hand sanitizer, download the Government of Canada's COVID Alert app)

Remember, COVID-19 transmission can happen anywhere so following health best practices wherever you are is important in keeping you and our community safe.

If you have concerns about your exposure to COVID-19, please contact Student Health Services at 519-824-4120, Ext. 52131. The University respects and protects the privacy of students, staff and faculty.

The University's COVID-19 website is your best source of information on U of G's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Return to Campuses website provides essential information for those coming to campus. If you need to be on campus, make sure you complete the U of G COVID-19 Screening Form every day before you arrive.
