U of G's Set for September emails help you prepare for your classes and experiences this fall. We're so excited to get this semester started!

Gather safely this semester

It's Friday and that likely means you're making plans to unwind this weekend. When you get together with your friends, make sure you're doing so safely by following this advice from Public Health and the Government of Ontario:

  • Establish and maintain your social circle - Social circles allow you to have safer close contact with closed groups of 10 or less. Make sure your social circle is fully established and that everyone is following the rules before you relax physical distancing within your circle. Give it a few weeks and make sure you're wearing a face covering and keeping 2 metres apart until your circle is established! Understand how to build your social circle and how to keep those in it safe.

  • Keep your get-togethers small - If you're hanging out with others, keep your indoor and outdoor gatherings to 10 people or less. Dr. Nicola Mercer, Wellington Dufferin Guelph's Medical Officer of Health says that's the most that can safely gather in the average Guelph home.

  • Don't share drinks, meals or vapes - They're great for transmitting COVID-19.

  • Download Canada's COVID Alert app - It can let you know of potential exposure to COVID-19 before you start showing symptoms.

U of G's Policy on Non-Academic Misconduct details the University's expectations regarding student conduct. Paragraph 4.4.2 is particularly relevant during COVID-19. These policies and protocols can be enforced for situations both on and off campus. In addition, the City of Guelph can issue by-law fines starting at $300 for nuisance parties. The noise by-law applies 24/7. Learn more about your responsibilities in Guelph neighbourhoods on our Right Foot Forward page.

We're in this together until we beat COVID-19. Help keep your fellow Gryphons - and others you care about - safe and healthy!

On-campus COVID-19 testing coming soon

Within the next few weeks, students at the Guelph campus will be able to access COVID-19 testing on-campus, by appointment through Student Health Services. As soon as the testing clinic is up and running, we'll let you know!

If you have questions about COVID-19 testing, call Student Health Services at 519-824-4120, Ext. 52131.

If you're living in Guelph and need a COVID-19 test, go to the COVID Assessment Centre at 400 Southgate Dr. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 or think you may have been exposed to the virus, drive by yourself to the assessment centre. If you don't have a car, call a taxi and let them know that you are going to the assessment centre so they can take proper precautions.
