Research Phase-in Framework for the University of Guelph

With the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph region entering Stage 2 of the Province of Ontario’s re-opening plan on June 12, the University of Guelph can begin the gradual phase-in of research activity that was curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic. U of G’s Office of Research has created a document intended to provide a framework for the U of G to gradually phase in research activity. It is now available on the Office of Research website.  


Trees and People: Resilience in a Changing Climate – John G. Bene Fellowship 2020

Deadline | Wednesday, July 15, 2020 - 4:00 pm (EDT)

This call is open to Canadians and permanent residents of Canada pursuing master’s or doctoral studies at a Canadian university. The award under this call will cover costs of field research conducted for a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation in one or more countries of the Global South.

U of G Expert Urges Need for 'One Health' Approach to Fighting COVID-19'

Prof. Scott Weese says it’s become clear that the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 doesn’t adhere to species boundaries. The virus began in animals and has repeatedly, albeit rarely, infected other mammals — including dogs, cats, tigers and mink.

For that reason, a One Health approach that acknowledges the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health is the best way to approach both research and public messaging to ensure we can get the virus under control, Weese said.

Ignoring this approach could allow the virus to be passed back to animals, where it could potentially create another wildlife reservoir.

Graduate Student Opportunities in One HealthDr. Katie Clow and Dr. Jane Parmley are actively recruiting for a thesis-based MSc candidate (Identifying core competencies for One Health practitioners in Canada) and a PhD candidate (Developing, applying and evaluating a framework to assess core competencies of One Health practitioners in Canada).


*NEW* Community of Practice for students engaged in full-time research this summer. 

The EL Hub in partnership with the Office of Quality Assurance have launched a new optional online community of practice for any student engaged in full-time research work this summer. The goal of this community, delivered through Microsoft Teams, is to create connections, share resources and facilitate professional development opportunities for students through weekly discussion posts, socials, and virtual Lunch and Learn sessions with guest speakers. The community is 100% student-led, being co-facilitated by Natalie, a Peer Helper from the EL Hub, and Alexandra, a URA in the Office of Quality Assurance.
