Introducing the Teaching with Intention Program

We are excited to announce the launch of the Teaching with Intention Program!

The Teaching with Intention Program offers flexible pathways to engage with your teaching. Whether you want to explore new questions about your teaching, connect with colleagues across disciplines to discuss teaching, or make more visible the intentional choices you already make every day, this program offers the space to do that work with purpose, alongside colleagues doing the same.

Who is it for? Educators at all career stages, including faculty, sessional and contract instructors, post-doctoral fellows, staff with instructional roles, and graduate students who have completed the Red Maple Program for Emerging Educators. Whether you are early in your teaching career or a seasoned educator looking to engage in your practice, the program provides flexible pathways that meet you where you are and align with your needs.

What does it involve? Participants examine their teaching through five distinct lenses, choosing from a menu of workshops, communities of practice, book clubs, and other options. Pathways are flexible, formats are varied, and there is no time limit for completion. Reflection is integrated throughout, and completion is recognized with a Certificate of Completion.

Curious to learn more? Join us for the September Teaching with Intention information and orientation session where we'll walk through the program framework, program options, and how to select program options that fit your context and goals.

Red Maple Program for Emerging Educators: Graduate Students and TAs

The Red Maple Program offers emerging educators a flexible and supportive pathway to deepen their knowledge of teaching and learning in higher education. The program is primarily intended for teaching assistants and graduate students and is also open to others who are interested in and would benefit from its focus. Rooted in a holistic framework, the program invites educators to explore connections between their experiences as learners, their pedagogical practices, the responsibilities required of them as an emerging educator, and the broader context of teaching and learning at the University of Guelph.

The Red Maple Program can be completed at your own pace, typically within one to two semesters. The program must be completed by the end of your graduate program to earn the Certificate of Completion and Professional and Career Development Record Badge.

Workshops that count towards completion of the Red Maple Program for Emerging Educators are also open to those who are not enrolled in the program.

Celebrating the Inaugural Teaching Leadership Fellows

On June 30, 2026, six members of the inaugural cohort of University Teaching Leadership Fellows completed their three-year Fellowships. Please join us in congratulating Ruben Burga, Ryan Clemmer, Kate Parizeau, Shoshanah Jacobs, Kathleen Rodenburg, and Julie Vale on this significant achievement.

Since the program was launched in 2023, these Fellows have contributed to an active community of educational leaders dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning at U of G. Through innovative teaching and learning projects, scholarship, mentorship, advocacy, and collaboration, they have advanced evidence-informed practices, fostered connections across colleges and disciplines, and helped build a culture that values teaching excellence and student success. The Fellowship has not only supported individual projects but has also created a network of colleagues who have learned from, challenged, and inspired one another over the past three years. The relationships, ideas, and initiatives that emerged from this community will continue to shape teaching and learning at U of G for years to come. The program was established to support educators as institutional change agents and educational leaders committed to advancing teaching and learning across the university.

To learn more about the Fellows and their projects, visit the University Teaching Leadership Fellows page

One member of the inaugural cohort, Melanie Parlette-Stewart, continues in the program and will complete her Fellowship in 2027 following an extension to her Fellowship term.

Learning Enhancement Fund Recipients Announced

Seven projects aimed at strengthening academic success at U of G have received support from the University’s Learning Enhancement Fund (LEF), awarded through the Office of the Associate Vice-President (Academic).

Established in 2006, the LEF funds proposals to support academic success through projects that increase student engagement, improve access and inclusion, and enhance curriculum innovation.

“Several of this year's projects take on questions about assessment and generative AI that every college is facing right now, and I’m eager to answer those questions with evidence,” notes Brian Husband, Acting Associate Vice-President (Academic). “Taken together the seven funded projects reflect a community that continues to treat teaching as something worth studying, and our students are the ones who benefit.”

Proposals can come from faculty or staff in any college, department or academic support unit that reports through the provost, with 22 total proposals submitted for 2026.
